New ground-breaking concept: Sensory rooms with light, sound and info

In collaboration with three partners, Chromaviso, a lighting company known for its Ergonomic Lighting and Circadian Lighting, has created an innovative concept for developing patient environments. CURAVIVO has been specifically designed for individuals with special care and stimulation needs, such as those in intensive care units, rehabilitation centres, elderly care facilities, and psychiatric wards, among others.

The initial CURAVIVO installations have been put to use with promising outcomes. The CURAVIVO concept was originally developed in collaboration with the staff at the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit NIA1 at Aarhus University Hospital and includes circadian lighting, sound, information screens, and visual observation. Behind CURAVIVO, which means "living care," are Chromaviso, VisioSign, Solutors, and SoundFocus. The unique aspect of CURAVIVO is that the system meets the individual needs of patients for gentle care and stimulation. Additionally, the combination of circadian lighting and functional light, noise masking, music intervention, individual information screens, and visual observation provides noticeable benefits for the staff and creates new opportunities for integrated care, training, and communication.

Flexible and diagnosis-based

CURAVIVO is part of a research project at the Neurointensive Unit at Aarhus University Hospital and has also been implemented at the Clinical Stroke Research Unit, Neurology Department at Glostrup Hospital. The next hospitals in line to adopt the CURAVIVO concept are in Karlstad and Hudiksvall, Sweden. The flexibility of the CURAVIVO concept allows it to be tailored to different patient groups and diagnoses. In the summer of 2014, Lindehaven Care Center in Ballerup introduced its CURAVIVO stimulation room. Specifically designed for residents with dementia, the CURAVIVO stimulation room engages the senses with vivid visuals and Ergonomic Circadian Lighting.

Integrated tool

— CURAVIVO is a prime example of innovative thinking, where four companies contribute their own expertise and integrate it into a high-tech hybrid solution, explains Claus Puggaard, Sales Director and Partner at Chromaviso, adding:

— The CURAVIVO patient environment was developed in collaboration with the staff and is based on the patients' diagnoses. Chromaviso brings in Ergonomic Circadian Lighting, which supports the patients' need for normalizing their sleep-wake cycle - and also contributes to a natural rhythm for the staff. Ergonomic Circadian Lighting is activity-based and divided into zones, allowing the staff to carry out their work without disturbing the patients. By combining Ergonomic Circadian Lighting with individual information, sound masking, music therapy, and monitoring, we can offer a groundbreaking integrated tool like CURAVIVO, concludes Claus Puggaard.
