Ergonomic Lighting in Operating Theatres: Insights from UEGW Congress

The presentation on Ergonomic Lighting sparked inquiries from Spain, Czech Republic, and France, following Jesper Durup's dynamic and user-oriented overview of the benefits of Ergonomic Lighting in the operating room.

Presentation on Ergonomic Lighting at ESGENA's pre-seminar

UEGW (United European Gastroenterology Week) took place in Vienna from October 18th to 22nd, 2008. This marked the 16th edition of Europe's largest exhibition in the field, and once again, ESGENA (European Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Nurses and Associates) organized a pre-seminar as a precursor to UEGW. With over 6,800 individual members among nurses in 40 countries, ESGENA invited Dr. Jesper Durup from Odense University Hospital to talk about Ergonomic Lighting. The interest in Ergonomic Lighting is growing on a European scale, and most recently, the installations of Ergonomic Lighting in three gastroenterological operating rooms at the National Hôpital Civil (IRCAD) in Strasbourg have been used for demonstrations.

Dr. Jesper Durup passionately discussed the numerous benefits of Ergonomic Lighting. By minimizing screen reflections in operating and examination rooms, the quality of images is optimized. The improved lighting conditions provide greater precision, enhanced visibility, and better outcomes. This positively impacts working conditions, reducing fatigue and increasing endurance among staff. Ultimately, it leads to increased safety for both patients and personnel. Driven by the presentation on Ergonomic Lighting, inquiries poured in from Spain, Czech Republic, and France. As a result, the two conference hosts, Pilar Perez-Rojo from Pamplona, Spain, and Gerlinde Wiesinger from Salzburg, Austria, invited Dr. Jesper Durup to repeat the success at next year's ESGENA seminar in London, coinciding with "Gastro 2009" from November 21st to 25th, 2009.
